Studio 342
Landscape Architecture was contacted by the
producers from Home and Garden Television’s (HGTV)
Landscaper’s Challenge and asked to be one of the
three competing designers for an upcoming show.
Each designer presented a plan to
the homeowner, and Studio 342’s design was selected to
be implemented.
Studio 342’s
design removed an expansive wooden deck and replaced it
with a smaller bluestone patio that steps down to
two concrete patios. One patio extends out
toward the planting areas and lawn and has ample
room for a table, chairs, and fire pit.
The second patio was designed to accommodate a
future hot tub. Nestled toward the back of the
yard, an overhead arbor gives the
space additional privacy. Large granite boulders
placed in the upper stone patio are the
source of a cascading water feature that flows into
the garden, where large boulders have been set for the kids to
climb and play on. An existing
play structure was relocated closer to
the open lawn area to give the children more room
for play. The layout gives the owners plenty of
usable entertaining space and gives their
boys plenty of room to play and explore.
