Working in
collaboration with Misty Philbin Landscape
Architecture, Studio 342 revisited the master plan
for Bellingham's Bloedel Donovan Park to incorporate
a proposed shell house and human powered rowing
facility into the existing park programming.
In addition to
planning the shell house facility and other new
features such as a kayak and canoe beach, and a
shell launch dock, existing park features were
improved. Pedestrian and vehicular circulation
were better separated and organized. A park
entry to the beach and open lawn areas was clearly
defined, and understory planting the divided the
lawn spaces and blocked views of Lake Whatcom was
removed, creating an Olmsteadian open space.
The master plan
created by Studio 342 is currently being used for
fundraising efforts and to gather support for the
project in the Bellingham community.
